Episodic Dysphagia during eating.

I've seen numerous doctors about this and just had a negative barium swallow.  Every so often when I am eating I will feel like my throat closes up and I can no longer swallow.  I have tried to swallow at these times, and it is impossible even for liquids.  About every two minutes, or every time I try to swallow, I will gag profusely and occasionally vomit.  This has gone on up to 3 hours, with the most recent being two hours long.  This makes it incredibly embarrassing in social situations and disruptive to my way of life.
Before the gagging occurs, and sometimes during, my throat makes this sound that is kind of like a gasp/burp.
It happens in clusters, every few days for about a week or two, followed by dormant periods of months.
The foods that I have been eating when these episodes happen have been: APPLES (multiple times with apples.  I mostly avoid them now because of it), steak, hot dogs, bread, broccoli.

I just had a barium swallow that came back negative.

I've been to 5 different doctors for the problem, and no diagnosis has been offered.  The radiologist mentioned globus hystericus, but I have dysphagia during these episodes and from what I've read this is not associated with globus hystericus.

Anyone got any ideas?

I would maybe consult a neurologist. Sorry I don't have any information for you, but I think that that should be your next step. Hope you get better real soon
