Hi,
How are you? The Tuberculin Test or Mantoux Test is used to detect latent infection in a person who may have been exposed to a person diagnosed with tuberculosis. It is indicated for persons from high TB risk groups, migrants from countries where tuberculosis is common, occupationally at risk persons such as health care professionals. Take care and regards.
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Some people have a negative tuberculin test and yet are infected. To avoid this confusion a 2 step test is done. The inoculum is give subdermally and the patient called after 48-72 hours. If the reaction is positive, the person is considered infected. If the reaction is negative, a second test is given 1-3 weeks later. Again the reading is taken 48-72 hours later. If second test is positive, the person is considered infected previously (no current infection). If it is negative, the person is not infective.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
