Spacey, disoriented, feeling terrible for 7-14 days at a time

For 17 years off and on I have suffered some very debilitating and often horrible symptoms lasting between 4 to 14 days or longer and happen every 20 to 60 days. Sometimes once a month. Symptoms have consisted of extreme fatigue(often feeling like the worst hangover you could ever have. This goes on for days and as much as a 4-14 days), dizziness, feelings like I am going to go insane, feeling very spaced out and disoriented, feeling like I am drunk, sometimes pressure in my skull that can cause dizziness and nausia and other symptoms. I have had CT scans about a dozen times as well as full blood work and they never find anything wrong. One time I was so sick I had to go into the emergency room because  I could not walk without help after being sick for a straight 2 months. The attending ER doctor checked my vitals and said "The patient appears to possibly be going into a coma but I don't know why". This was after they tested my blood and give me a CT scan. They decided it was some sort of allergic reaction to something so they gave me an antihistamine injection which did not help. I spent several days in the hospital and remained very sick for over 2 weeks after I got home. This incident was more than 13 years ago. It has never been that bad since, and often symptoms are bearable comparably to experience but rather debilitating none the less. Recently I have been experiencing colored visual auras and strobe like flashes out of opposite eyes. Both incidents have happened one time each about 5 days period apart. I never had such issues before except occasional days where one of my eyes will be blurry all day which has been going on for more than 9 years every couple of months. My brother has epilepsy and diabetes. My father has diabetes as well. I have been tested for diabetes about a dozen times but always normal results. They thought I had that because often when I get symptoms I get severe dry mouth and I urinate a lot if the symptoms are severe. I have never been tested for epileptic problems. I had been feeling fine both before and after the second visual disturbance which was a circle of different colors spining slowly leftward in my left eye that went on for about 30 minutes. About an hour after that I began to feel very tired, spaced out, disconnected and feeling like I was going to pass out. ( note: I do not suffer from migraine headaches). I slept great anyway and woke up feeling even worse so I went to the ER. This was this friday. They gave me a CT scan and took blood tests. All showed normal. Since then I have been feeling about the same. Last night I forced my self to go do an aroebics class and use the steam, sauna, and jacuzzi hoping it would help as it has sometimes in the past. it made me feel even worse. During my visit to the ER I asked the doctor if it could be possible that I might have MS, Epilepsy, mini stroke, and other things and he pretty much said no and that epilepsy does not run in families. He advised I go to an eye doctor and that's all. Early on doctors decided my entire problem was anxiety and depression  and I have been seeing a psychiatrist for 12 years. He first thought the diagnoses was correct. He now believes there may indeed be some undiagnosed problem with me being that I do not have actual anxiety attacks, but my mental state of unblalance is a byproduct of something else being that between attacks I seem and act totally normal with no sign of any mental illness. These symptom-free periods can last as long as 3 or 4 months. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly helpful

Hi. I just came across your story. I feel exactly the same. It's been months. Have you found relief. I can't take this feeling anymore. I've been to many doctors and they say anxiety. But I feel that these horrible symptoms are what is causing me to have anxiety.
I would really appreciate any help or advice. Tnx

Firstly sorry for my bad english. You may be having deficiency in Vitamin B12, B3, B6, and protein. Because Vit B and protein are needed to regulate and maintain nerves and heart working properly. The cause may be celiac disease. Celiac disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats. The only known effective treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet. For now, what you need to do are intake high dosage Vit B12 twice a day. Vit B Complex twice a week, and high protein everyday - you need to take this Vitamins and protein for at least 6 months. Hopefully this will help.

My husband has experienced the auras and loss of sight for a short time, over the past 6 years.
He also has had bouts of severe vertigo with nausea, vomiting for days. Once it would let up he'd be tired, spacy, pressure in his head, etc. He recently felt another attack of vertigo symptoms coming on and stopped the chores he was doing and laid down. He didn't get the bad vertigo as before, but has been dizzy, can't concentrate, ringing ears, etc. This time it's been going on for 4 weeks.  We've done the Eply moves which helped. We've gone to the House Ear Clinic in LA, a neurologist, our GP  and all say it's BPPV.
Our chiropractor now treats with Auricular Ear Therapy (laser type acupuncture) and torque release (originating out of UCLA) and my husband is finally finding relief. A pilot friend had the same thing and did the same.  The problem isn't always in the inner ear. Quite a bit is in the neck and the vestibular artery is being cut off ( due to earlier trauma, etc) thus the symptoms. He's had three treatments and is better with each.  I have a blown disc in my neck and have used the same treatment, which I swear by now. You leave feeling very Zen and sleep is wonderful at night.

Hello- I had trouble logging into this site for awhile. They would accept even password reset, so I gave up trying. So I am here trying again. Anyway I am interested in learning more about your symptoms. Could you possibly give me as much detail as you can? I don't mind reading something lengthy. Also conditions you have been tested for or have been concerned that you might have. I plan to send this message to the others here as well. I want to share something now that may or may not be the cause of these symptoms, but I have made some headway and maybe this will help. I hope it does.

After my first visual migraine 9 months ago it took me 4 weeks to recover. During this terrible experience I posted some brief info about it on facebook. Within minutes a friend responded saying that he and his wife had very similar symptoms. They discovered that at least part of this was probably caused by severe candida overgrowth. An overgrowth that can become so severe that poisons released from the bowel into the blood stream can cause severe symptoms in the brain as well as the bowel. Do you have any unusual intestinal symptoms by any chance?

Anyway my friend put me on a candida cleanse and candida diet. This began in the second week of the onset of the symptoms. It took 2 more weeks before I felt better. Once I did feel better I felt better than I had in 20 years. I also had remained feeling great for nearly 9 months, the longest I have gone without symptoms in over 14 years. However I continued to have some rather miserable problems with my intestines off and on, so about 3 weeks ago I went on a strict candida diet again and a strong cleanse.

About 11 days ago I suffered my second visual migraine with no headache. This was about 9 days in to the cleanse. The visual migraine was much milder, in the left eye, and lasted only 20 minutes. I remained calm and just laid back, tried to ignore it and watched a movie. it cleared up very quickly and then I felt totally normal. I only felt some mild panic during the episode. However I woke up the next day feeling very weird. I felt like my brain was slightly damaged or something. Very weird symptom. Sort of like being drunk, moderately disoriented, fatigued, dizzy. Reminds me of how you feel after if you are awakened after a minor surgery and you still feel all wacked out because the effect of the anesthetic is still being experienced. Or how epileptics say they feel after a siezure. These symptoms have remained constantly for the past 11 days. Except last night. I felt like the symptoms were lifting off me. My head felt clear very quickly and then I began to feel much better. I thought it was clearing up, however I woke up feeling just as weird again. Waking is very hard because my eyes feel very "Tired" and sore, and my brain feels like it's just burned out. The symptoms lesson slightly as the day get's going and I then feel slightly better, then worse from 3 hour periods to the next. I feel like I might never feel normal again.

Does any of this new information sound familiar too? I am hoping that this is happening due to the cleanse and diet, after all I thought for sure I had this thing beatin, and indeed I have felt normal for 270 days straight. Before I would be lucky if it was 60 days.

I say we band together and help one another find some answers. Doctors seem to be at a loss, and probably for all of us. From my side of things I pray that my candida suggestion helps end your suffering. If you want to try a candida cleanse and diet I can give you tips. it can't hurt to try. Please respond and let's lick these nightmares together !!

Are you on anti-depressants?  Mine can me feel like this at times.  Even if you're not...too much seratonin can make you feel like this at times.  it's something that probably wouldn't affect your vitals but can make you feel super weird.  like taking mushrooms or ecstacy, which i have never done, but my friends who have said that this is what it feels like.  Halo's and vision problems are often associated with migraines.  Please don't worry becuase sometimes our bodies just feel weird.  ;)  It does't mean you are dying!

I have every symptom you described. I have been to many doctors from Virginia to Delaware. i have had numerous MRI's and all kinds of scans. I too went to the ER with these symptoms. My mom took me and it appeared I was going into a coma. Later they decided I was having an allergic reaction to something. Even though I had not eaten all day because of feeling so bad. A few days later I was so sick my mom took me to our family doctor. This doctor told me I has having an anxiety attack in my heart I knew as soon as she said that it was wrong but I was desprerate for answers. I went to a psychologist and nothing! I stopped going because I knew that was not my issue. After about three years of going from doctor to doctor and test after test. I just have been dealing with this on my own. Now it is getting to the point where I can not function properly. It is making it difficult for me to to my job properly and I am very forgetful as well and I think that has to do with my not being able to concentrate. A few years ago when I went to the ER with one of these episodes the doctor there said I should look into Fibromyalgia treatment. At the time I didnt pay him any attention I was tired of doctors. Now I am looking into that. I hope we all get help soon and keep each other updated whatever it is something has to give. Feels like my mind is slipping away from me at times.

Hi,

I'm curious if you have found any further results at this point? I experience the exact same thing and can't seem to get any conclusion on the matter? I am currently now being looked at by a ENT specialist as the ER suspects that I have something called miniere's disease - which I am 100% confident I dont - they said this the last time I had these episodes and I had already undertaken these tests which concluded previously that thi is not the cause of what I am experiencing?

Any comments would truly be helpful as I am currently experiencing a bout with these problems - mine are not as bad as yours as this is only the second time this has happened to date - therefore I am experiencing this in 3 year intervals - the only thing that remains from the last time is tinitus (ringing in the ears). I have no idea on what to do and it is starting to really scare me should I say........

Thank you,

PIP

I kinda get what you are saying... I had experiened
a visual disturbance this past Sunday, I ended up in Er.
I haven't felt ok since, I have been getting what feels like
a panic attack, but I really don't think it is... It is almost
like my whole body is out of wack, blood pressure up
when normally very low and overall uneasyness.
Keep in touch.
