I have had chronic neck pain that appeared on June 15, 2009 along with stiff painful right wrist. There's swelling in the C7 all around which got so bad that I was wearing a neck brace from Sept to Oct. Excruciating pain with movement left me with no mobility. I had no choice to quit my job at the beginning of Sept because of the pain. I have had numerous tests, CT scan and MRI of entire spine (w/o contrast) and the reports come back negative. I've had blood work done from a Rheum, all negative, nerve conductivity tests, saw a chiropractor in August which made it even worse. Also PT for months with no positive results. I have insomnia and restless legs syndrome which have kicked in, I assume from the anxiety (loss of income/not being productive) I am experiencing. When I look downward, I feel awful pain across my shoulders and down my spine (like a capital T). Have tried massage therapy, made it worse as well. I've had 2 docs imply this is in my head because they have no answer. Desperately seeking a Diagnosis so I may participate in treatment, get my life back for my family as it is emotionally painful to know my children and husband have to see me suffer like this. I am usually an upbeat, positive person, who can always put a big smile on my loved ones faces, this is fading. And so am I. Someone please give some possibilities here. Thank you.
How are you? I'm sorry to hear what you have been through for the past months. it is really hard to be not the person you were. I do hope that the proper diagnosis be made soon. Neck pain can be due to a number of disorders and diseases of any tissues in the neck. This includes degenerative disc diseases, neck strain, whiplash, a herniated disc, or even a pinched nerve. Aside from MRI, additional diagnostic tests such as x-ray evaluation, CAT scan, bone scan, myelogram, and electrical tests such as electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) may help determine the underlying cause. Take care and do keep us posted.
