What can cause numbness and tingling

by Cookie223, Nov 10, 2009 08:07AM
What can cause numbness and tingling? On Oct 13, 2009 I woke up at 4:30 a.m..My Feet were numb and tingley. The felt as if I had been sitting on them and they fell asleep. I though nothing of it and went to work. As the morning went by the numbness continued up my legs. I kept moving around thinking that my cerculation must be mest up and if I just move it would get better. At 8:00 a.m. I was walking across the room and it felt as if I had no legs. I started to fall. I was numb from just below my breast down to my feet. It felt like as if I had an epidural block. My husband took me to the local hospital. They did some test including and MRI. After which the air lifted me to Wash. Hospital Center in DC. I had all kinds of test and lots of drugs. On Friday the Nerologist told me that they had no idea what was wrong with me and sent me home. I went to my nerologist. After seeing my medical records he told me my problem wasn't nerological and sent me to see a rheumatologist saying it my be fibermialgia.
I went and saw the rheumatologist and he also said that he didn't know what was wrong with me but that it was not fibermalgia.
alI am now at a loss. I still have numbness and tingling from just below my breast although, the feeling is not as bad. My feet sometimes have a burning feeling. Like the feeling you get when you have been out side in the cold and are begining to warm up. My skin is very sinsitive. When the doctors touch my feet and legs with small sticks it feels like needles. I am also having a hard time moving my bowels. I am very constipated. I have not taken any pain meds since Oct 18, and drinking about 64ozs. of water a day plus eating fiber cereal, fresh vegs., and taking stoll softners.
If anyone has any ideas please inform me. I a am desperate.

Hi,
How are you? I'm sorry to hear what you've been trough for the past month. Hold on and be strong. Aside from neurological and fibromyalgia, numbness and tingling may be caused by lack of blood supply, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, transient ischemic attack (TIA), thyroid problems and even stroke. This could also be due to abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, or sodium in your body and use of certain medications. It is important that the cause is determined for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
