What could be the problem ?

by Feliki, Mar 05, 2009 02:48PM
My father 63 is until now healthy person. Since 4 months he is loosing weight and looks dehydrated. His skin colour is darker. Blood tests show low sodium level, which is always going lower, although he gets sometimes fluid intravenous with sodium. He also vomits often for long time without no reason really (normal food we eat too). It is going in the wrong direction and we wonder why doctors cant give us a real diagnosis. No appetite.

Hello,

Involuntary weight loss is usually indicative of serious disease.. It may be due to obstruction to esophagus, diseases like hyperthyroidism, intestinal malabsorption, and also with cancers. Vomitings are due to obstruction to the esophagus and cancers. Repeated vomitings are known to cause low sodium levels. In an older person, it is essential to rule out cancers as a cause of these symptoms. Please discuss with your doctor or an oncologist for further clarifications in this regard.

Please do not get worried.

Regards
