Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Factor V deficiency causes bleeding, but presence of factor V Leiden a variant of factor V causes blood clot formation. Usually this causes pulmonary thrombosis, clots in the leg vessels and  coronary thrombosis.
Treatment usually is for about 3-6 months with heparin or warfarin. But if the situation requires treatment should be continued indefinitely. Prevention of clots can be done with avoiding smoking, if obese reducing weight and living a healthy life with moderate amount of exercise.
I would recommend to get a check of the leg vessels with Doppler after 3 months to see the improvement with treatment and take further advise on whether to continue treatment or not.
Best.
