why do i lie to my husband

by cameotisha, Apr 10, 2009 01:34PM
iam 27 married to 28 years old lovely man. i love him alot but i am always telling little lies to him.

sometimes they are about money matters that involve my family or sometimes about talking to a few friends that i have known since i was a child and he does not want me talking to.

Dear Cameotisha,

There could be many reasons, but if you in fact love him, and there are no flamboyant problems in the relationship, a leading contender is that you feel constrained or hemmed in by him.

Is he tight or overcontrolling with money? Is there a good reason he doesn't want you to be talking to those friends, or is he just of a controlling character? If it's the latter, your lying might be a way to express your anger, and possibly also create some space for yourself.

Perhaps see where your thinking goes about this, and get back to me if you'd like.

Sincerely,

Dr. P.
