BC Question

I have been on Amoxicillin 875 mg 2x a day since January 2 and take them until January 21. I am also on Yasmin which my doctor knows about. He didn't say anything about if the medicine affects the bc pill, but on my bottle it says "certain meds may alter the effect of your birth control". I have heard sevreal different stories about these two pills interacting, some people say no and some people say yes, and you may become pregnant. I checked a website that another poster gave me a while back ago, and it says it does interact but I didn't quite unstand the website that much.
So can someone please tell me if these two medicines interact with one another??

Thanks

Be careful!  Antibiotics can mess with BC pills.  I am super careful and we always use Encare for back up when I have to use antibiotics.  However, you can call your pharmacy and they can tell you for sure.  It is no biggie, just use a back up method of your choice.  I have two friends that concieved on BC with antibiotics.  Best of luck!

When I took bc pills years ago I do remember hearing that if you took antibotics that you should also use a condom.  Please remember that this was Years ago.

Your physician/pharmacist should have given you a pamphlet outlining what the risks of the antibiotics are. If you're if doubt, call a pharmacist and ask. They'll be happy to explain any risks, since they deal with those drugs frequently. Whenever I've been given antibiotics I've always had the pharmacist warn me about it affecting BC, and I'm sure that Amoxicillin is no exception. Unless a pharmacist replies to your post, the only way you'll know for certain is to talk to one yourself.

In the meantime, it isn't difficult to couple your BC with using condoms for as long as you're on the antibiotic.
