I go to church every Sunday, wheather I like it or not, and feel soooo refreshed afterward. I actually drive back home singing the hyms. My favorites are "Here I am Lord", "On Eagles Wings" reminds me of my deceased mom and the "Ave Maria" makes me cry......Hugs, Judy
I'll try to fast sometime, have to really try because it's hard for me. I make my bf go with my to the group all the time. Actually I think he's more religious than I am, so he's really happy to go. I do volunteer work at the hospital, which I love. And I visit my 100 yr old great-grandma at the assisted living home about once a week, or try to. And talk to a lot of the people sitting in the front lobby where they all sit. The no meat on Fridays isn't that bad, just have to remember about it. There's so much going on in my life, that I sometimes almost forget. Adoration is a great idea, like that a lot. I think I'll try going more. I haven't been in a while.
Michelle - it doesn't have to be fish, it just can't be any other kind of meat. You can have like, a baked potato and a salad.
You don't have to consume fish. ;D
I didn't get my ashes either. I just stopped working a few months ago, but when I did, I would go during lunch. There was a church close to where I worked that would do the ashes service at noon. I found one close to my house on the internet, but didn't know exactly where the church was at and I only had a few minutes to get there. I knew it would be packed, etc. so I ended up not going. Felt a bit guilty because I haven't missed in several years, but I will do better next year. I didn't really give anything up, per say. I just vowed to go to adoration every week. I have been meaning to for some time, but now I def will. I will need to figure out what I will eat for lunch since it has to be fish today!!! Ahhh, have to get back in the habit :)
Anyway, see you ladies later! Take Care.
Michele
i think you will do just fine just remember its faith that counts, and the ability to do what you say you will luck to all jo
also, for lent, I am going to St. Rita of Casica parish to volunteer at a pantry distrubution today from 2 to 3 pm, I will attend mass tonigh, give up soda, which is difficult for 40 days, but will also benefit me, because it will help me with my diet also, I have an elderly neighbor who has no one and I am the only one who visit her very week at the nursing home, Feeling a little more spiritual now and I hope you consider donating your time or doing something special for someone too.
A note to specialmom: You truly are special and I'm very proud to call you a dear friend!!!! Judy
I worked for a Parish and Archdiocese of Chicago and represented them in France (The Grotto) where I was baptized in the waters of the Grotto and shame on me that I literally forgot that it was lent, missed mass and hate fasting....oh well, I'm human an prone to errors. I think we (me and you) should try it one day in this life time (lol)....yes, one day. I will give up soda, but it helps that I'm dieting also. I'm so glad to hear that you are active in your parish youth group. Keep it up and take b/f with you :) Hugs and good luck.
I pretty much remember cuz I'm involved in a Catholic young adult group, so that keeps me up to date with everything. I'm not real good with fasting myself. I'm the type of person who is eating all of the time.
Hi....shame on me! I'm Catholic and did not go to mass to get the "ashes",today, I'm ashame to say, "I forgot"...opssss, BUT similar to you, I'm giving up soda and that's a hard one for me. I'm still working on giving up coffee, but....I don't think I can. Also, I go to mass every single Sunday, yes, every Sunday, BUT I have yet to fast, don't know how to even begin and the though of being on just bread and water all day is just a little too much for me. Good luck to all of us...we need it for giving up the goodies and fasting...hugs, Judy
