Can't add much to what the ladies have said already. Realize that this decision is a huge one for your gf, and try to support how she feels. You knowingly became close with a women past the age of having children, so if it is her decision to not want to move forward with the pregnancy for whatever reason. please respect that. The child would not fare well with a mother that wasn't 100% happy about giving birth and looking after a child into their 70's. You on the other hand, can find a mate that wants to have kids, and your gf can find a man that already has.
Do you have any children yourself.?
Am looking forward to hearing how the Doctors appointment went.
Go with her to the doctor and ask all the questions possible about prenatal testing. Many conditions a baby can have, when the egg is from an older mom, can be tested for before the baby is born. The oldest natural births listed in the medical archives are from women who were on hormones for other reasons, like treating menopausal symptoms. If your girlfriend was taking hormones, it is actually not that surprising that she might have popped out an egg. Women in their mid-50s have done so.
Anyway, talk to her and the doctor about the possibility that the baby will be born with medical issues and what ones can be tested for in advance, and go from there.
Hm. Well, that would be a true miracle if she naturally conceived at 49 years old. Like newspaper worthy. Women have a finite amount of eggs and they are either pretty much spent by then or in bad shape. It's a sad fact that the clock really does run out for women. Go see the doctor and see what they say. Did she leave the test out? Because an evaporation line can form if that happens. I'm sorry to sound doubtful but that is very advanced age for natural conception. And you are correct, egg quality is such that it would be unlikely that a healthy pregnancy would occur. But miracles DO happen so I'll be interested to see what transpires! Let us know what the doctor says. Please come back and update! good luck and congratulations!
