Sexy Commercials - Open Forum

Ok, here's a new topic. How many people besides me are sick and tired of sex being thrown at us left and right on TV? And now they're even in the commercials! How about the new one from Carl's Jr./Hardees about the "flat buns"? Or Burger King's Whopper father coming home to a party and his little girl is upstairs with a Whopper Jr. and when the dad gets mad, the hamburger says "She was coming onto me!" What does sex have to do with food?!
There's so many more out there that I can't think about, if anybody else can think of anymore and help me out here. Does this bother you guys too? Now, I'm no prude but it's just constantly thrown in our faces anymore. It's bad enough that it's in all the television programs but now the commercials!!! It's tiresome. Anything that you're constantly bombarded with gets old. I thought sexy was leaving a little bit to the imagination. Now it's just thrown at us. Don't even get me started on Brittney Spears!
But I'm veering from the topic. Back to commercials. What do you guys think? Am I the only one tired of this?
One commercial I have to say I like is Sonic's commercials. They're funny and cute and make me laugh. They're about the only ones. Give me some feedback, everyone.

All I know is that when my 5 year old sees a girl on tv with a short shirt on she always asks me why I won't let her show her belly button.  GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I'm with you. I hate the way they make us parents or any authority figure really (teachers, cops, etc.) look like idiots and the kids are so cool and so much smarter than us. And then the public wonders why we have such problem with kids and authority figures, like in the schools. I've aways taught my kids to be respectful to adults. When one of my kids would come home and complain about a teacher, I'd listen and maybe even agree with them if the teacher was wrong or whatever, but I always would tell them that regardless, they must talk and act in a respectful way to their teachers. If I found out they talked back to their teacher, they'd get in trouble. Now days, parents are hiring lawyers if the school tries to discipline their child! I feel sorry for teachers and principals today. They have their hands full! My grandmother used to tell me the worst things kids got in trouble for in her day was chewing gum. Kids were taught to respect their elders back then. I guess high school has really changed a lot since I was in it.
I'm seriously thinking about homeschooling my 3 year old. I just wish I had done that with my 15 year old and spared her and her dad and I a lot of pain. I was talking to one of her teachers last year and they said they've seen a shift change in students the last few years. They've noticed that they just are so much more experienced and knowledgeable about things like sex, drugs, etc., at a younger age. He said that the things we didn't hear about or know about until we were in college, kids are exposed to now at around the age of 14. I think he's right. I was pretty innocent and naive at that age. Granted, I rebelled and got a little crazy when I left for college, but I was 18 & 19 then!

Could any of this have to do with what our kids are exposed to through the media, TV, radio, etc.? It makes you think.

I've pretty much gotten to the point where I don't even watch tv shows anymore because of not just the commercials, but the shows too. Not only is *everything* sexualized somehow, but I HATE the way the media is portraying the parent/child relationships even more than the sexualization. Why? Because shows on tv and commercials are showing kids as young as toddlers who are "in control" and "wise" and the parents are a bunch of fuddy-duddy baffoons! Then we see the results of that influence in real life--like my 12 year old sister who cops an attitude thinking she's the coolest thing this planet has ever seen, and us adults just have "no clue" about anything from picking our noses to running a house! Ooooohh, I hate that attitude!
Some examples: the girl in the Disney movie "The Haunted Mansion," and the kids in that minivan commercial (I forget which minivan) that are watching DVDs and playing cards, and their dad comes to them jumping up and down and clapping his hands like a 5 year old saying he built them a tree house! But the boys look at him lazily and say, "Does it have this technology and leather seats, etc." The father's enthusiasm is killed as he says no, so the one boy (who looks about 7 yrs old) looks at him and says, "Sorry. Maybe some other time, Dad," and closes the door in the dad's face!
Stuff like this bothers me more than sexualization because it reinforces to kids that going to parents for advice, or just to have a healthy relationship with your parents is NOT cool, and parents don't know anything about anything anyway.
My other pet peeve, as far as sexualization, are the window displays in Victoria's Secret! GRRRRR!

I feel like there are so many darn commercials nowadays that tv shows are so short because every two seconds they are breaking for commercials.

Ok heres my issue with commericals.  I don't care about any of them, but they have their time and place.  Sexual commercials have no place in between news, they should wait till after 11 pm when kids are in bed to show these commercials.  Or show them on HBO but not in between a kids program.

How about the gum commercial where the two teenage kids just grab eachother and start making out in front of their parents?  Or the one where the mother is showing her daughter's boyfriend a pic of her naked as a baby in the bathtub and the girl goes "you should see what I look like now" or something like that.  It's just inappropriate.  I don't think that they are at all funny.  I am also sick of the feminine itching and the herpes commercials.  Since when do we have to be lured into buying drugs from all of these pharmaceutical companies?  I think that only a doctor should be prescribing medication, now everyone thinks that they should be taking a pill for every symptom they have.  Has anyone seen Chris Rock's comedy show on HBO?  It was his last stand up show, he said that they start naming all of these symptoms and everyone thinks that they have the problem.  "Do you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning?", "Are you sad?", "Are you lonely?", then take this pill.  It's really funny actually and right on the money.

Dillards is a nice store for childrens clothes.  They are made well, and cover more of the child up.  Expensive though

Yeah, I hate the tampon and viagra commercials, even the ones about the "feminine oder and itch". For crying out loud, do we really want to hear this?! Can't people figure out for themselves what that product is for? Do we really need them to spell it out for us?
And you're absoloutly right, RockRose, I hate the stores that have such young kids in sexy poses. When my daughter was around 10 years old, I was looking for a nice dress and shoes for a wedding we were going to. I could not find anything for little girls! The dresses were WAY too sophisticated and I couldn't find shoes without at least a two inch heel! I knew she'd kill herself in heels, so I kept looking for some nice flats. To this day when I walk through the stores and look at little girls clothes, I just shake my head. It's all way too sexy! Even in the toddler section! CRAZY!

See, I am different on this.  I can keep my kids out of the Abercrombie store, so that they don't see those images, but it is really bad that when we sit down to watch a show on tv, that I have to turn the channel when a stupid commercial pops up.  Heck that Hardees commercial was coming on during the nightly news.  I called the news channel and told them about that.

Oh my gosh, I forgot about that axe one! You're right, it's not just the sex, it's just so pointless. It's like "what the heck does that have to do with the product?!"

I don't mind sexy commercials that are aimed at adults,  and feature adults.   Sex sells,  especially to men - car commercials,  beer commercials,  etc.

I am a little uncomfortable with viagra and tampon commercials,  etc.,  and commercials that go into too much detail about toilet paper,  etc.  Not terribly uncomfortable,  but kind of . .  um,  I don't want to hear that kind of detail.

What really bothers me is posters for Abercrombe and Fitch,  and stores like that.  I'm really put off by nearly nude pictures of young teenagers.  This shopping bag I'm looking at right now,  model "Genelle",  she appears to be 14,  she's provocative and her pants are almost off and you can see her g-string.  There are WAY worse in the store,  and I looked up the images online because I wanted to link them here for everyone to see,  but it's pornography.  One image that really really bothers me is a boy - maybe 16,  and a nearly nude girl - she only has panties on.  The boy is completely naked except his pants are around his ankles.  This store caters to young teens - what's going on here?     GRRRRRRR makes me crazy!

even worse than the constant bombardment of sex is the totally pointless sexy ones. like the commercials that will show a scantily clad or partially naked girl dressing on cartoon network for 20 seconds then have a blip on the screen advertising some adult swim cartoon that comes on at 1 am. that has what to do with that woman?

there are so many commercials that have absolutely no relevancy to what they are selling. i hate commercials.

oh..and i can't stand the ones for axe or whatever it is, the guy is spraying body spray in the air while hordes of women in bikinis run across the land etc to claw their way to him....pleaaaase!

or, the bow chicka wow wow ones!

okay end rant, sorry, but ugh, commercials annoy me.

I myself will not eat at Hardee's anymore due to their commericals.  My family has boycotted them for good.  I even called Hardee's and complained.  I guess I wasn't the only one.
I hate when they do this with commericals, because you can't block commericals.
