My son's father is one of those types.  His current girlfriend is living with him now and they've dated for about a week and a half.  Every girl (last 6-7 women he's dated), he calls me to tell me that he's found the one and that they're so perfect.  Only once has he actually proposed to a girl and that was after 2 weeks of dating.  The relationship ended because she started dating her ex.

I had a boyfriend like that once specialmom. Our 2nd WEEK of dating he wanted to "surprise" me. He took me to a jewelery store...told me to pick out an engagement ring. o_0. I ended things a few days later. lol.

Same guy actually found me on facebook (before i made everything private, which it is now) and did the facebook creeper thing. He messages me and says "how dare you! You got married? And had kids??? That should have been ME!!!" Before blocking the creeper I informed him I'd dated my husband a full year before we discussed marriage and didn't get engaged for a few more months after, and didn't get married for 2 more years. And that our children were a product of our love...after being together for 3 years and not 2 weeks.

I am so torn!!!  I see a lot of ladies that push a man away or go for bad boy types that outright make it clear that marriage is not on their mind (a way of prolonging commitment) and I see a lot of guys do everything in their power to weasel out of it all.

So, it is a toss up in my mind.

Do you know any of those people that go on one date or go out with a new person for a month and they want a full commitment and to go ring shopping already?  They scare me a little bit too.

My husband was the one who wanted to settle down, get married and have kids first. He said that big "L" word first and all that jazz. So I voted no.

I think women fall first and hardest. Men fall hard but think twice about saying forever. It seems like the marriage thing is most frequently a dream for the lady first......

It might depend on what one is committing to...

When men know and find what they want... in a woman, they seem to be more decisive and quicker to commit to an exclusive relationship.

As for committing to something more long term, like marriage, many exhibit fear and reluctance... perhaps, it's the ramifications of permanence and subsequent life-style changes that's scary. But, this feeling isn't exclusively a guy thing; women can convey the same reservations as well... in fact, it's one of the reasons why I never married.

I voted yes, I think sometimes men are more afraid to make that leap than women.  We've been brought up to idiolize marriage.  Find the right one, have a big wedding, have kids and die old.  We start planning our weddings when we are young and all search for THAT guy.  So I think we want it more than them.  I mean how come we have to wait for them to ask us?
