i can't find a way out

my best fren fell is 24 yrs n is in love with a girl of his university. they had spent alot of time together n he was too attached to her. they were all the time on phone or hanging around. but 5 days back her parents came to know about their love affair n they've said to her not to go on with it bcoz of religion prob. now my fren is very upset. he is upset all the time. juz feels distressed........ though this grl is not his frst girl friend but surely she was special. n i have not seen him like dis b4 wen he had broken up wid other girls.
he doesn't talk well n juz cries all the time. dis makes me very upset n i feel helpless.
i juz wana ask is there sumthin i can do to make him cheer up...... i can't see him like dis.. it makes me cry too!
he talks all the time about tht grl only n i kno it must b hurtin him but he can't stop doin tht! so today i tried to avoid all the talks he did about tht chick n joked about stupid things but still he was not ok.... i askd him to go out for a movie but he said he doesnt feel like doin nethin.
pllzz suggest me sumthin on sumthin tht i can do or on my behaviour towards him.

if it was just 5 days ago since the breakup, give him time.  keep offering him a release to escape his heartache.  he'll eventually accept when he's feeling better.  that's what i'd appreciate in a friend during a time like this :)
