I had the same problem when I was younger with low iron. Believe it or not it actually took a couple of years to get back to normal when I was just taking the pills, but right before it did my doctor told me ( and I know this isn't the best, but...) to eat lots of meat. She said meat would get my iron back up to where it needed to be and it actually worked. She said if I could red meat was the best, but eat whatever meat I could. And spinach works really well too. When I was younger I didn't like meat very much but I started eating steaks and my iron popped up so quick I couldn't believe it. That's something to try.
Thanks! No I'm not depressed, I love my life other than this problem lol
Are you depressed? You need a complete work-up by your doc, and if they don't find anything, and the ferritin issue is resolved in terms of your levels or whatever, then this could be depression.
Are you able to get any exercise? Usually that improves mood and fatigue levels. Sorry, I'm sure it's the last thing you want to hear, but it's pretty well documented at this point that exercise can really break people out of fatigue.
As far as the above poster, I wouldn't be depending on "alternative" treatments if I were you. Generally, these "food supplements" have not been scrutinized with clinical trials, have questionable efficacy, and are not controlled substances, so you don't know what you are getting. You might as well click your heels together and pray to a fantasized supernaturalist.
You also might want to drop some of the carbs from your diet and see what happens. Many people report increased energy levels on low carb diets because blood sugar swings from carbs can destabilize mood and energy levels.
Good luck.
Hi Becky
I am a firm believer in alternative health. I use it for myself and all of my family members. I see a naturopathic doctor for EVERYTHING that ails us. I believe that if you do not fix what is truly going on inside your body rather that just covering it up with pharmeceutical drugs you wll never fully recover from whatever it is that ails you. EVERY problem that the human body has begins in your digestive tract. I would suggest some high quality multi vitamins that contain vitmains minerals antioxidants and some green foods. I would also suggest some probiotics and some digestive enzymes for starters. I would go talk to a naturopathic dr. or just someone very knowledgable at a health food/ vitamin store. (not GNC or Vitamin world) usually a privately owned health food store. I would do this before getting a second opinion from a medical doctor. I think that doctors are great and valuable in certain situations, but there is something going on in your bofy that can be fixed naturally I am quite sure. Possibly things you do not even consider such as heavy metal toxcicity, or excessive mold, or your adrenal glands are failing or just need to be boosted with some natural methods. I hope this helps, let me know if you need any info. Where do you live? Thanks
You could always get a second opinon - it never hurts. Especially since you are not feeling any better or stronger since you are taking the iron supplements. I also agree with Barn Babe - depression can do strange things to a body. Good luck!
Maybe you need a second opionion. What type of doctor did you go to? Maybe you need to see a specialist.
A good friend of mine is having the same problem is you her iron is very low the docot just gave her to take 3 iron pills a day and believe me she is very tired and weak. The doctor told her it will take months for her iron to get back up to normal. I would just keep getting it checked and do what the doctor tells you to do. Hop you feel better.
