Adenovirus and prolonged fever

by Canzan, Jul 12, 2007 12:00AM
my 3 year old daughter has had a fever for 14 days with sore throat, diarhea (diarrhea) and vomiting. She has not eaten for 6 days.  Her fever went up to 104F on Tuesday.  We took her to the hospital and we found out that she has adenovirus (through a nasopharyngeal test).  When I look up information on this virus, it says symptoms are a few days to a week. My question is how come after 14 days her fever is still not going below 39C with Tylenol?  How much longer do we let this go on before being seen again?

Although these are common symptoms of a virus, they are still longer than usual.  I would not wait too long before calling your physician again if the fever persists.  Sometimes, these viral infections turn into pneumonia and need to be treated.
