After Mantoux test, How long the erythema, induration on the skin will disappear?

**hi, im 30  yrs old, and i had  my  mantoux  test 72  hours  ago.as pre-employment requirements on my job..The reading of  induration is around 12  to 15mm.My  GP dr. says, yes its  positive, but  it doesnt  mean that  i have  TB, could it  be my reaction to the tuberculin, coz i have no other signs  or  symptoms as  like  active TB has.

**also, how many weeks   will this erythema and  swelling ( induration) will  disappear?  any measures  to be  done? or  it  will just  fade  away by its own, coz  its painful , too.

*** also  the mantoux test is  done on my both arms ( one on left) ( one on right) is  it  safe?
please.. im  worried..

hi,i am a lady doctor currently working as a duty doctor in a private hospital since 2 years.i have been tested positive for mantoux.i have noticed koebner's phenomenon on my skin and excessive dandruff since past five years and have positive family history for psoriasis as well as allergic bronchitis.i have no respiratory symptoms suggestive of koch's disease.is it possible that  predisposition to psoriasis or koebner's phenomenon can lead to a positive ppd?how do i confirm this?

Hi, probably a week, week and a half maybe to fade away. Assuming it's not a false positive or early active then you have latent tuberculosis infection. The standard treatment for latent TB infection is isoniazid for 6-9 months. You should get a chest x-ray, and request a QuantiFERON-TB Gold test if it's available where you live it's more accurate than the skin test.

They do the skin test on both arms to rule out false positives/negatives. The Mantoux test is totally safe because it's not live bacteria it's purified protein harvested from dead tubercule bacillus. Hope this helps...take care.
