Was told after testing I have pulmonary hypertension(PH) and now I have pulmonary fibrosis which is a COPD and now it is also called bronchiectasis. Does anyone here have this problem? Go to my heart Dr on 29th for more info of what's next.I do not smoke but husband smokes. He makes sure air cleaner is on and ion machine too. Still wish he would smoke outside on back porch. thanks, piddler
i was diagnosed w/ bronchiectasis. i smoked until almost 4 yrs. ago. my husband smokes but not in the house because my pulmologist absolutey laid down the law. second hand smoke can cause many nonsmokers lung problems. besides i can't be around it because it causes me breathing problems. must now be allergic...
if i may ask, what caused yours?
Hi Happi! Not sure how I got the bronchiectasis. Finally learned how to spell the thing! I was tested for the Alpha-1 gene. Negative. I was asked where I worked in the past. Told them a textile mill when 18 for a month or so. I'm 53 on 15th. When working in a Winn Dixie deli when 23 or so this new kid was mopping and decided to mix up a batch of ammonia and bleach. Store was closed then thank God.BUT we were still there and it was horrible. My chest burned for several days after that. Dr never remarked abt anything.Worked in a industry making sport jackets for a year+. Lots of fibres floating in the air there. Nearly drowned when I was 22 at the beach. So...don't really know the cause other than my parenst both smoked since day 1.Then I married my hubby who smokes in the home and his Dad also smokes in the home. Will be back to see pulmonologist 23rd of Oct abt how the C-PAP machine is doing for me.And to the Heart Dr abt the same thing. I have pulmonary hypertension also which was caused either by the mild OSA or the lung deal. Heart Dr wants to see if the C-PAP has helped with the numbers of the pulm. hyp. at all. Learning to sleep with the machine pretty good, except that I still cannot get to sleep and stay to sleep. The machine was supposed to help me stay asleep and all. The Heart Dr was surprised to hear abt that. I take melatonin an hour or so before bedtime and it helps me get abt 4 hours sleep then my eyes just pop open. I started out with a nasal pillow set up for the first 3 days of the C-PAP.My mouth kept flopping open so I asked for the full-face mask. Much better now and I can sleep on my side if I want. The heart Dr put me on coreg cause of my high blood pressure(160ish over 90ish) and I already take lisinopril cause of diabetes and the kidney thing. No kidney probs so the lisinopril is safeguarding that I was told. Anyways, the same day I started Coreg I was breathing better while sleeping in my bed and my tachycardia things were abt nil(found out after taking my levothyroxine the correct way that the meds were too high). I was getting up lots cause I could not breathe very well laying in bed. That felt great. Always felt like I'd been running lil races all day how my heart felt. Then blood pressure was still high as it was and he put me also on norvasc. No more heart thingies going on. Get SVTs at times before all that. Found out ALL this because of the need to get cardiac clearance for a colonoscopy cause of severe left belly pain.Month or more later i got the colonoscopy done(had to get all the heart testing done with first) and found out I had diverticulitis. All these ills are cause of too high of pressures in my body. Coincidentally weird, huh? Gonna ask my DRs abt that. I can gab can't I Happi? Your next. How are you doing with the bronchiectasis? piddler(Jackie)
hi jackie! good lord women, do you have enough to deal with or what??? i feel better just talking to you :) i am on a bronchiectasis site and i have heard that intestinal problems occur in some bronc people. they think its an inflamation thing. diverticulitis is very painful, isn't it? i was a smoker. got very sick w/ staph infection and aspergillous in my lungs that went on far too long before it was diagnosised and treated. permanent scarring w/bronchiectasis. my lungs were probably weakened also because of the smoking. not anymore! almost 4 yrs smoke free......my husband smokes, both of my parents smoked in the house too. i have pvcm, which they think is the biggest culpret of my shortness of breath tho. i don't know, just learned to live w/ it. i have heard of the c-pap machines. they work relatively well from what i have heard. i can't imagine trying to sleep with one. aren't they noisy? i'm a lite sleeper too. waking alot due to the feeling of choking or not being able to swallow because of the laryngeal spasms. it makes for a short nite doesn't it?? sure nice to meet you! look forward to chatting w/ you.
Hi Happi! Could you tell me how to get to the Bronchiectasis site you mentioned? That is really great you have stopped smoking for 4 years.Bet that is hard. But you're doin' it,huh? What is PVCM? The C-PAP machine is quiet.Very quiet.Just that when if you use the nasal pillows(nasal things that slip up to your nose instead of a nasal mask or full face mask) and your mouth opens while you're sleeping the pressure will make you sound like a horse.Just ask my hubby who woke up laughing his head off and then woke me! Now, if only I could go to sleep all the nite I'm down. Later, Jackie
