Aspirated food and existing pneumonia

by TrevMa, Jun 20, 2008 11:16PM
My adult son is currently recovering from pneumonia in both lungs.  He is still coughing up green sputam.  He first got sick during Marine Boot Camp about 6 months ago and went without medical treatment until he collapsed last month.  He was given a shot and 7 days of antiobotics, but was not permitted a re-check requested by the base doctor.  Now, he has informed me that he aspirated a whole french fry!  How will this affect his pneumonia?  Can 6 months of a lung infection cause permanent damage to his lungs?

Your son needs to get himself rechecked   he may have gooten aspiration pneumonia. there is a difference between the 2 of them. aspiration  pneumonia is where you bring food into your lungs. I would have him checked again. why in the heck was he not permitted a recheck. most doctors want to keep an eye on this type of stuff to make sure it isn't getting worse??? I would expect that someone in the Marines would get the best of care.
Good luck and please Thank him for doing what he is trainging to do
