Aspiration

Hi my 8 month old baby was in hostipal for 3 weeks he was always getting coughs and was chesty we foumd out he is silently aspiration his bottles his sucking is so bad he is not allowed to have any oral feeds again he has an ng tube in 3 weeks in hostipal and he was sent home with ng tube with he is having all his formula through yesterday he start coughing and is chesty again could anybody tell me if they know what could be causing this again thanks in advance

They already said its not asthma he is not allowed have spoonfeeds he is gagging and coughing on them he only liked savoury foods they think he could be aspiration his spoonfeeds to he just gets 180ml of formula through the ng 6 times a day the problem is actually his tounge

hummm definatly ask the Doctor to check him out again and ask could it be asthma as he is 8 months old what solid foods is he eating ?

Hi guys he is on sma lactose free and no meds im awake all night watching him he has the cough and whezzy back since monday

I should think he would be less likely to aspirate if he were sitting up, but they must have had a reason for lying him down. Do you know why?

Hi  he doest have reflux and he is seeing a slt im bck to hostipal next week in the hostipal they had him lying down when feeding him i have him on a pillow so he is half way up

He could be aspirating reflux. Be sure to follow up with his doctor. In the meantime, make sure he is upright while getting his formula through the ng tube, and at least 30 minutes afterward. Ask the doctor for a referral to a pediatric swallowing/speech therapist.
