Control your asthma naturally, with this pranayam. Initially do it for 30 minutes twice a day, and when the asthma is in control, reduce the timing to 20 minutes daily. You should feel the benefit in 3 months, but continue the pranayam for life. Your feedback at some point, will help others.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Ask if there are generic available as well.  There is generic ventolin which is $5 cheaper than the brandname (at least up here in Canada).  Some doctors will also give you samples.  I recently had my respiralogist give me 3 full sized advair MDI to use until our next appointment.  It sure helps the pockets :)

Also, different brands will have different sizes that may be cheaper.  I went from 2 puffs twice a day on advair ($120 every 3 weeks before I had my drug plan) to surviving on 1 puff twice a day of pulmicort (although it did increase my ventolin from 1 every 2 weeks to 2-3 a week) which costed me $150 but lasted 3 months.

Good luck and I feel your pain, I'm a university student and since the time I described above, my asthma control has tanked and I'm spending close to $200 a month for meds and vitamins.  That includes 6 puffs of advair MDI a day - inhaler lasts 20 days (~$120), singulair - one package is 30 days ($40), ventolin 2-4 puffs a day - lasts 50 days ($7), atrovent ~6 puffs a week (forget how much, probably $10-14) plus the vitamin D, NAC, omega 3s, calcium and B complex that my respiralogoist recommended which cost roughly $80 a month.

I have a company that I get 2 of my meds free, the inhalers and imitrex but its the waiting to get it that's the big problem. Anyway I printed a 15 dollar off coupon and used it to get the proventil filled ( at walmart ) but it ended up being 32 dollars with a total 5 dollar savings in total. So now I have one and am waiting for the one to show up in the mail. If anyone needs help getting meds filled that are made by glaxosmithkine they have a program called Bridges to access, where as long as you don't make more then 4,000 a month your meds are free through the mail, that is the only free one I know of right now. But keep in mond its a 14 day waiting period at least to get them in the mail. Good luck I hope this helps

Oh, caregiver222 is right about Walmart.  They do have a "sample size" inhaler for around $4.  It only has about 60 puffs though.  I am thinking it is Ventolin, but it could be something else.
Take care.

You can also talk to your doctor about this.  There are programs that they can hook you up with so that you can get your medicine.  Another source would be to check the manufacturer's websites for programs and aid.  Lastly, www.rxassist.com (maybe .org) is a great resource for help with prescription meds.

Hope that helps you some.
