This is not an easy question. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to make the diagnosis of asthma. This can be done with the use a lung function test before and after breathing in a medication. The test is simple and pretty definitive.
Because you had a reaction to a medication that caused some breathing difficulty does not at all make the diagnosis of asthma. People with reactions to medications can have skin problems, lung problems etc, but these symptoms do not occur at other times when they are not similarly exposed.
When someone DOES have a diagnosis of asthma, beta blockers, including Lopressor, can be a problem that leads to increased breathing difficulty. That is why it is probably a good idea to have the lung function test to make or rule out this diagnosis.
Hope this helps.
