Atrial blood gas test? Will they do it?

I've been having short breath and chest pain for more than a month  now... I'm always trying to yawn and inhale deeply but I just can't. And if I excersise really hard my chest will hurt REALLY bad. I'm going to a pulminologist in a few days. They said they will probably do blood work but I don't know what they mean by that. Will they most likely do a normal blood test and draw from a vein? Or are they going to do an AGB test? Is it possible for them to do both with one sample?

And how to they Exactly draw the blood for an ABG test? Do they poke deeper, into an artery? Eewww. I can hardly stand when they poke at the surface :(

I'm 15 if it matters...( I dunno, they might be more hesitant cause I'm young and there's less of a chance I might have something wrong.)

Hello and hope you are doing well.

For lung function evaluation, your doctor must be referring to spirometry, it is a test where you will be asked to blow into a hand held machine and it records your values. This tests the lung functions. The commonly measured values are FEV1 and FVC, which are forced expiratory volumes. This will help detect asthma.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Every time I go to the lung MD they do an ABG. The techs are very experienced and I have never suffered more than a brief sting. I think it bothers me less than when they take blood from a vein.
