Back rib pain while breathing deep

by twingirliejen, Jun 18, 2008 03:24AM
While preparing for bed this evening, I sneezed and felt a sharp pain in the right side of my back, in my ribs. I brushed this off. A few minutes later while laying in bed, I began to feel pain again in this area, then when I breathed in deep, it hurt quite bad. This made me hyperventilate (pain was intense). As I breathed deep, the pain began to intensify. I calmed down and it became less painful, but even now as I am sitting up, I am finding tightness in my chest and the pain still exists as I breathe in deep. I am a smoker, but havent experienced this before. I am only 24 years old and have not been smoking for more than a year or two, and not very heavy. What might this pain be caused by and what should I do?
