Barium Swallow

by Dakotawinks, Aug 31, 2008 09:42PM
I have had thick, clear mucus in my throat now over a year. I have had chest x-rays, chest ct scan, barium swallow, larynoscopy and sinus ct scan. Through all of this they found what they called "mild" COPD. Would this be the reason for the thick mucus? My doctor suggested a ct scan of the throat, but I already did a barium swallow. Through all of this he (the doctor) tells me I am very unusual as most people don't have thick mucus in their throats, yet I keep reading over and over about people that do. I really don't want to go in for the throat ct scan and am wondering if the barium swallow is a test that should of "caught" cancer of the throat if that is what it might be. I am tired of all these tests and nothing to help. They started off by telling me it was GERD then LPR and none of the meds for that worked. I am really getting anxious over all of this. I just want to feel good again. There is no mucus medicien made that I have not tried nor anything on the shelf left at Vitamin Cottage that I didn't give a shot. I feel so alone. Nobody has an answer and it gets to where it scares the heck out of me. If anyone has an idea please let me know, and let me know if it is necessary to have the ct scan on my neck done. I really am tired of all the tests and the cost of it all. I just went in two weeks ago for the ct scan of my chest, why on earth didn't they just do it then?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have this same exact problem...after a good number of years I am now seeing an ENT.  I will let you know how things progress and will share any info I receive.
