Blood Clots Again?!

by hestes1, Nov 01, 2006 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with 3 small blood clots in my lungs in May. I've been on Coumadin therapy for 5 months now and am currently taking 15mg per day. I have had difficulty keeping my PT tests where they need to be. I for the last two weeks have experienced chest pain and dizziness and am scared I have another blood clot. Is this possible? I had all the heart tests which came back normal so that isn't it.

Your symptoms may or may not mean that you have recurrent clots.  Heart tests do not exclude the possibility of clots.  An echocardiogram can rule out the heart as the source of the clots.  Your doctors need to determine why you had the clots in the first place.  This would be especially important if you have had further clots while on Coumadin® (warfarin) therapy.  Finding the cause may require a complex work-up.  This may be done by lung or blood specialists and include a careful assessment of your blood clotting.  Check with your doctor about his/her recommendation of the appropriate specialists.

I hope your chest pain and dizziness are not signs of recurrent clots.  However if they are, you must seek further consultation immediately, for recurrence could be a life-threatening event.

I have chronic PEs. I've had them for 7 years and all of the doctors that I have spoken to are surprised that I am even alive. I am trying to find anybody who has had 5+ years of PEs and thus far - it seems pretty slim pickings - from what I have gathered thus far - nobody with PEs - (chronic) ever lives that long. I can probably answer any question that you may have regarding PEs and DVTs - my brother died from both. I have been hospitalized so many times that I have my own personal nurse with my healthcare provider - so, email me with any question that you may have - and I will try to provide a realistic answer vs. one which is glossed over by the doctors or those that have no idea what they are really talking about - and if you know of anybody who has 5+ years of chronic PEs and is still alive - I would appreciate you asking them to get in touch with me. ***@****
