You will need a second opinion to get the answers to your questions.  Ask your doctor to refer you to a "high-risk" anesthesiologist for this second opinion.

So much depends on the doctors involved and YOUR condition.  I have moderate to severe COPD, asthma, and anaphylaxis risk.  I have had a breast lump biopsy, endoscopy, and recently a bronchoscopy, all with little anesthesia (generally conscious sedation) and no complications.

There ARE some anesthesia options for folks with COPD that you can explore with your pulmonologist, the surgeon and anesthesiologist.  Some folks with COPD have had surgery with spinals, others have been able to use conscious sedation and other methods with good results.  I would urge you to find docs who will work with you and figure out which options are best for your conditions.

Aloha,
Starion
