COPD 73yr M hemophyliac swollen extremities

by allmic, Dec 15, 2006 12:00AM
My father is a hemophyliac, 73 years old, who now has difficulty breathing and has swollen lower extremities. He does not repond to our pleas to go to the hospital. He also recently has difficulty remembering recent events ie. that we have asked him to go to the hospital or the severity of the situation. I believe that his lung capacity can`t be more than 50% of normal. His legs are so swollen that the skin is streched even his face is showing signs of edema. His breathing is laboured after any kind of physical activity. He even agreed to a wheelchair unprecedented!.

This is a very complicated problem that needs to be addressed on an ongoing basis by a consistent physician.  I would suggest discussing these problems with your father's hematologist.  These are not uncommon problems and this physician is in the best position to assess the immediate and long term needs.
