by JOSEFINE, Nov 27, 2006 12:00AM
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN GIVE MY 88YEAR OLD MOTHER FOR RADIATION FIBROSIS. SHE HAS TAKEN 5MG OF PREDNISONE-COUGH MEDICINE WITH CODEINE-WHICH CONSTIPATES HER. SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER & HAS KNOW DEVELOPED RADIATION FIBROSIS AFTER THE RADIATION THERAPY WHICH ENDED IN SEPTEMBER.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

High dose prednisone can be helpful in the early stages of pulmonary fibrosis.  However, when it is well established and irreversible, the only treatment is symptomatic, such as the use of cough suppressants.  Consultation with the radiation therapist would be most appropriate as they are very familiar with this side effect.
