mY SON IS ALMOST 11 AND IS EXTREMELY ATHLETIC ONLY HE HAS ALWAYS SUFFERED FROM RSV OR BOUTS OF CROUP. wHEN HE WAS 5 WE MOVED TO ny AND THE EPISODES HAVE BECOME WORSE EVERY YEAR. i HAVE BEEN TO MANY SPECIALISTS AND THEY TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY HE WOULD OUTGROW IT. aT 8 i HAD HIS TONSILS AND ADNOIDES REMOVED IN HOPES IT WOULD HELP. tHAT SAME YEAR HE ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA AND THE EPISODES ARE GROWING MORE SEVERE AND MORE OFTEN.hE HAS SPENT MANY DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL WITH "CROUP".wE HAVE TRIED EVERY INHALER AND AGRESSIVE PREDISONE USE.hE HAS ATTACKS FROM SEPTEMBER UNTIL LATE MAY.HE HAS BEEN IN HOSPITALS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WHEN WE GO ON VACATION.hE IS NOW SUFFERING FROM PANIC ATTACKS.hE IS CURRENTLY ON SINGULAR,HUMABID,ADVAIR,VITAMINS AND PRIMATINE MIST. hE HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR REFLUX AND VCD.iT ALWAYS STARTS WITH A CHANGE IN WEATHER.a COMPLAINT OF SORE THROAT AND POST NASAL DRIP.SLOWLY A DRY COUGH WILL DEVELOP.nEXT HE WAKES UP CROUPING WITH STRIDOR AND WHEEZING ON EXHALATION.hE COMPLAINS MUCUS IS STUCK IN HIS THROAT.hE HAS NOT BEEN INCUBATED BUT I FEAR WE ARE MOVING THAT WAY.hOWEVER,WHEN HE HIS HEALTHY HE IS 150%. wHEN HE PLAYS SPORTS HIS PEAK FLOW READINGS ARE HIGH.aLL OF THE MEDICINES THEY HAVE PUT HIM ON (AND WE HAVE TRIED MANY) ALL TREAT THE LUNGS AND HIS ARE GREAT. iT IS SRTICKTLY AN UPPER AIRWAY PROBLEM.I HAVE MOVED FROM ONE SPECIALIST TO ANOTHER AND THEY ALL SAY IT'S AN ASTHMA OF THE TRACHEA BUT HOW TO TREAT IT ? hE HAS HAD A 3-D CAT SCAN AT COLUMBIA,NO REAL ALLERGIES AND IS ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST,MUSCULAR BOYS YOU'D SEE.i WOULD FLY TO dENVER OR THE END OF THE EARTH FOR HELP!

National Jewish Medical and Research Center could certainly provide a thorough outpatient evaluation for your almost 11-year-old son. Please call LUNG LINEŽ at 1 (800) 222-LUNG (5864) about this possibility.
If you're really interested in getting a GOOD, thorough evaluation of your son, seriously consider having him evaluated at National Jewish. You can get more info from their website at www.NationalJewish.org. They have well-earned their reputation as the #1 respiratory hospital in the US (of course my husband and I are biased as very, very satisfied patients of theirs).
It's really hard for anyone to give your child the attention his very complicated case deserves on a message board, but I certainly understand your quest for answers. By the way, they do participate with & are preferred by many insurance plans as well (even mine in Hawaii).
