A related discussion,
chest pain/something in throat/ was started.
The pain of pericarditis is typically described as a sharp or stabbing pain in the mid chest, worsened by deep breaths.
This pain may mimic the pain of a heart attack, because it may radiate to the left side of the back or shoulder.
One distinguishing factor is that the pain is worsened by lying flat and improved by leaning forward. When lying flat, the inflamed pericardium is in direct contact with the heart and causes pain. When leaning forward, there is a space between the pericardium and the heart.
Many people report a recent cold, fever, shortness of breath, or pain when swallowing just before developing pericarditis.
I too have been suffering from breathing difficulties. I am a female, 33 years old, non smoker, never exposed to 2nd hand smoke. I also have anxiety that causes me to think that I have a new disease every week. This week it is lung cancer or lymphoma. I have 4 young kids so it really interferes with my life. Of course in the past 5 years of worry nothing ever came of anything.
I have trouble breathing in deeply, it causes pain in my lungs. When I am lying flat it feels like someone is lying on my chest, sort of a compression. I have never had asthma or any other lung disease. I am leary of X-Rays and CT Scans because research shows that those increase your chances of cancer. I have mentioned it to my doctor about 6 months ago and he just said it was anxiety. I dont take any medications at all and dont plan to. I prefer using herbs and homeopathy.
I do find that having a really good posture helps with my breathing. Also breathing in warm steam, helps open up your lungs. I also like to use Eucalyptis oil in a warm bath.
I am going to wait before I go to the doctor on this one. If it gets worse I will. I am going to try correcting my posture and possibly visiting an acupuncturist.
Good luck
Your symptoms are not typical of lung cancer. At your age and with a clear CT, this is not lung cancer. This sounds like a muscular pain of the chest. Sometimes pain can interfere with the performance of pulmonary function tests, so that the results suggest "shrinkage" of the lungs. However you could have asthma.
You should seek consultation with a pulmonologist. This lung specialist can interpret your pulmonary function tests and determine the cause of your chest pain.
Hi friend
When I first started having the problem it felt like I had somthing stuck in my throat. I was thinking 100% that i had throat cancer. They did put a camara down into my voice box to see. and guess what? completly clear. Still have feeling now as I type this but at least I know now there is nothing there. The mind can play some very nsaty tricks on you.
With regards to lung cancer, As far as i can tell your are right about ct picking up small tumors. When I had my CT done, they noticed i had a kidney stone about the size as a sesermy seed that you get on top of hamburgers. So they are very accurate.
They do say it is extremly rare to get lung cancer at a young age. But just like you I am unsure. Normaly as far as (I know) you normaly feel fatigued and have adnormal wieght loss 10% or more. Also clubbing of the fingers can also be another sign.
If you say the pain is coming from the musles and you have no other symtoms it dosent sound like lung cancer to me.
Please remember though I am no doctor, this is just my opinium. Always get checked out by your doctor and dont let up on it until you have a defenate answer. Please dont worry though your going to be ok. Worrying only makes you feel hundred times worse.
Although my CT's are clear. Im seeing my chest specialist today and will be asking him to put me in for a PET scan to look for adnomalies.
Hello there,
I am 27 and for the past two months I have had the same problems. Heaviness in chest, a lot of phlem in my throat and a on and off cough. I have also had some joint pain. I feel your pain. I am worried as well... I think some of my condition is due to anxiety. I have had a chest x-ray last week that came back fine... But I might do for a CT Scan. From what I hear a CT Scan can find a tumor that is pea sized or greater and a chest xray will only notice a little bigger. I would appreciate if someone had some answers or comments on this subject, as this worries me. I am an x smoker of about 7 yrs. I have been told that it's extremely rare to find cancer in someone <40 yrs old, but I'm not sure.
I feel like I have something stuck in my throat too.. Like smoke or something, not always but sometimes.
Thank you in advance.
