Chest Xray Results

by Old Hunter, Mar 29, 2004 12:00AM
I was recently directed to have a chest xray in connection with sputum I was bring up and shortness of breath.  The xray showed a white area in the lower left lobe.  Is a CT scan of the lung indicated as a more definite diagnostic tool?

Since a white area was seen on your chest x-ray, other tests may be indicated to tell what might be causing your sputum and shortness of breath. A chest CT scan is more sensitive and shows more detail than a chest x-ray, so this is a more definite diagnostic tool. Another test that may be recommended is spirometry. This is a simple breathing test that checks to see how your lungs are working.
