Cheyne-Stokes Respiration

by Katrina2002, May 06, 2005 12:00AM
It has recently come to my attention that during sleep I am exhibiting the breathing pattern known as Cheyne-Stokes Respiration.  Apparently this is related to sleep apnea.  Is this very  common?  Should I see a doctor? I've having trouble sleeping soundly now as I'm concerned about this.  I am a 58 year old female and both a friend and my daughter have witnessed this breathing pattern in me.
Thank you.

Cheyne Stokes respiration may occur with obstructive sleep apnea, but is often associated with heart failure.  You should have a formal sleep study in a sleep lab.  You should also have a complete heart evaluation.

you should see your dr and ask for a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea altho that sounds like what it is....but there are different degrees and some people need to be on a cpap machine to help them breath cos there throat muscles at times relax too much and cause some obstruction........good luck
