Children cough from playing with sawdust?

My 3.5 year old daughter was playing with some redwood sawdust in the backyard for maybe 15 minutes couple days ago. Now, a day or two later she is coughing quiet hard with a croup cough. Can the playing with the handful of sawdust cause her illness or is it more likely has nothing to do with?

Yes, it is possible she got some of this in her lungs, or it is also possible she has an allergy to sawdust.
