Chronic Cough triggered by pain?

I have had a cough for 17 years and for most of those years, doctors treated it like it was an allergy or asthma, even though my histamine challenges and lung functions tests came back normal and extensive allergy tests proved negative.  Doctors don't know how to treat my symptoms so they keep prescribing allergy and asthma meds.

I just got back from seeing an Ears, Nose, Throat specialist (referred by my Allergist).  He advised me that what I have is a "sensitive" throat and that I pretty much have to live with this ongoing cough (which produces mucus).

Here's the thing...what REALLY triggers my cough attacks is when I experience pain in my left foot (stubbing a toe, stepping into a hot bathtub).  It doesn't have to be a major pain, just anything that causes a high level of discomfort.  The last episode was when I dropped the vacuum hose on my foot - I dropped down on my knees, coughing and trying desperately to catch my breath.  It seems that my throat just instantly closes up.

When I've described this to physicians, they simply state, "Well - I've never heard of THAT happening before" and then it is left unaddressed.  I did see a neurologist and he said that "wasn't possible".

Associated symptoms:  I sweat only on the right side of my face.  When I cry, I sweat on the right side of my face.

Weird...I know.

I'm at my wit's end here...where to turn next??

Thanks for any and all help...

My mistake - the associated symptoms should read:  I sweat only on the left side of my face.  When I cry, I sweat on the right side of my face.
