Chronic Coughing after flu

This is my third coughing bout in 3 months.
Starts with sore throat, goes into chest and cough starts, very tight chest. After a week, no better, got antibiotic and codine. Seemed to loosen and phlem coming up, but now it's been 3 weeks and although better feeling in chest, I'm still coughing a lotin the day.  Sleeping ok without coughing very much at night but I feel exhausted all the time.

Should I get tested for Asthma or Bronchitus?

I've never smoked.
Have had acid reflux problems, but not as bad now since I've had my gall bladder out. I am a 56 year (young) woman. I'm just sick of feeling rotten and coughing all the time. Sometimes I get a coughing spell and it won't stop for about a minute, then it's ok for 5 minutes until it starts again. My chest is hurting inside from all this coughing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Coughing like this can follow a viral infection of the chest or a sinus infection.  Both usually cause an increase cough at night, as well.  However, this is not an absolute.  It is also possible, but less likely, that this is asthma.  Chronic cough is fairly common this time of the year because of the increase number of infections.  If this is troublesome, a chest x-ray, sinus CT scan and a lung function test are appropriate ways to pursue the diagnosis.

Coughing constantly aggravates the airways causing more coughing, try and calm it with some cough medicine. Yes it is a good idea to see your doctor regarding asthma and sinus.
