Chronic Hiccups???

In the past 6 months I've had the hiccups at least once everday ... here lately I've been getting them more frequently, over 3-4 times a day. They usually don't last very long, sometimes I hiccupp only once. I never really thought anything was weird about it. I just thought that I got the hiccupps a lot. Then yesterday someone suggested to me that I should go to the docotor and check it out and so I did a search on yahoo to see if there was anything that could make me have the hiccups so often and came up with chronic hiccups ... I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or how I could tell if that's what it was or not Thanks!

Most cases of hiccups are not secondary to a serious disease process, but some are.  Your presentation does not sound serious.  Most cases of hiccups are caused by overeating, eating too fast or alcohol or tobacco use.  Some serious causes of persistent hiccups are, thoracic aneurysm, brainstem tumors and esophageal obstruction.
