Chronic Sore Throat

Chronic Sore Throat

Around two years ago, I was diagnosed with 'type A strep throat' I was given penicillin and it seemed to go away. My sore throat came back about 2 months later, and I was given penicillin again. Same result. After going back and forth with this and other medicines for over a year and a half, my doctor told me that the cause was most likely my tonsils. This summer, I had them removed, however my sore throat continued.

I went to another doctor, who tested me for strep throat again, and it came back positive. He prescribed me Cipro, and two weeks later, the test came back negative, however, the sore throat came back. He then prescribed Mucinex to me, thinking there was a problem with the way I am sleeping. However this auctually made it worse. I have reached my boiling point with this and really need to know what is wrong with me. Can anybody help me?

Thank You All

You should ask to see an infectious disease specialist.  This would be the type of specialist to find out what is wrong and what treatment will help the most.  Some people are strep carriers.  Sometimes the infection is caused by a drug resistant strep.
