Chronic cough and repeated infections

by lucky73, Jul 01, 2009 11:33AM
My 11 year old son is asthmatic and in the last 9 months has been having a chronic moist cough. He has had almost 9 different courses of antibiotic, everything from amoxillin to rulide, and about 5 short 3 day courses of oral steroid in this 9 month period. In the last 8 weeks, he has gotten a high temperature on three different occasions, this has followed by worsening of his asthma and eventually being taken to the emergency section of the childrens hospital. I am repeatedly being told that all these episodes are VIRUSES and nothing more. He has done a full blood count and other blood tests in Feb which were normal, the chest x-ray was normal too. His lung function tests were quite bad though. He has came down with high temperature again yesterday, the sputum is green mixed with streaks of blood and it hurts him to cough. The doctor reckons it is yet another virus. I am perplexed and totally stressed, can you please advise me.
