My son has had a wacky kind of cough since he was born, he was born via c-section with some difficulty breathing. From the age of 3 months he began in with the croup. My daughter had it so we knew what it was an how to care for it. Now he is 3, and it seems every time the weather changes he gets it. There are no symptoms, he may be cranky, but his noseNose fracture doesnt run. He has been to an ENTAbdomen - swollen Abdominal tap Adjustment disorder Adolescent control test Adolescent depression Adolescent development Adolescent pregnancy Adolescent test or procedure preparation Alopecia, under treatment Alzheimer’s disease Amenorrhea - primary who gave us flonase to try on a regularRegular insulin basis. We have gotten to a point that we only give him the steroid if he has bad stridor, otherwise we just steam up the bathroom and move him in and out all night long. Its miserable, he gets it a few times per MONTH. He had this last weekend and was fine by Monday, now he has it again. In between he did not have runny noseNose fracture or anything, and he is smiling and laughing as if nothing. There is no stridor associated with it.
We live in Florida, so the weather doesnt usually change all that often, but this winter has been a different temperature each day and dropping from 80 to 40 over night and then back up to 70 down to 40 up again, etc. The croup incidents coinside with the change of seasons.
He had a barium exam taken and he was diagnosed with dysphagia, but I was told this is something he will grow out of. Since he is 3, Id rather be tortured by the sleepless nights then torture him with anymore testing. Has anyone found anything associated with chronic croup that could be harmful, where I should be continuing with tests?
Staceyb, the same thing happens to my grandson who is now 6 years old. Since he was 3 , he would develop that croupy cough, like you say, as the weather changes. My daughter says, right around Halloween or thanksgving he comes down with it.
She had numerous tests done on him. A few times , she had to rush him to the hospital for the reason of his consistant coughing and couldn't breath. They had him on a nebulizer and steriods since he was 3 but didn't really seem to help him until they put him on antibiotics. It seems like the antibiotics helps.
He was tested for Allergies, cystic fibrosis, his sputum was diagnosed and they also checked his immune system. Which was a little low and they gave him a shot to boost it. But no sooner did he pick up the Croup again.
She has been giving him Allergy and antacids which helped him somewhat, which the doctor ordered. But after a few days, it is not until he gets some antibiotics, which seemed to help tremendously.
