Chronic sore throat/neck pain

by jakecarson1, Jun 25, 2002 12:00AM
I have had sore throat/right side neck pain for about 6 weeks. It feels irritated and sometimes a full feeling in my throat.  The pain also radiates to my right ear.  I have seen an ENT, who seems to think it is some type of lingering infection in the muscle tissue.  Throat cultures, and mono tests negative.  I also have a history of post partum thyroiditis, approx 2 yrs ago.  I have an enlarged lymph node also on the right.  I have taken almost 3 weeks of antibiotics, with no improvement.  Any ideas?

You should not ignore this problem.  You should have a reevaluation of your neck, either by your present ENT doctor or another ENT doctor.

Do you think you could have a thyroid nodule? I did, and those were my symptoms.

My docter here in Roanoke,VA felt that my chronic sore throat was due to a combination of allergies and sinusitis. He prescribed Allegra 180mg daily and Nasonex nasal spray, 2 sprays both nostrils daily. This seems to be what helps me and I hope it will help you too.
