Cold, Allergies, Swollen Tonsils, Throat Lumps... Help Please!

by ihatemysinuses, Dec 09, 2003 12:00AM
I've had a cold for about 2 weeks now. I have regular allergy problems including a runny nose (allergies are dust, pollen, mold, pet dander, etc...). My sinuses feel very painful to me when they are full at this point. To top it off my throat is now feeling scratchy, my tonsils are swollen, and I have small lumps in the back of my throat (lymph nodes??) The lumps are the same color as the tissue around them, just a little bit lighter. Any ideas what this is? Strep throat or something else? Please help!

It is possible that all of this is due to an allergic reaction, which is causing drainage and swelling and accompanying discomfort.  It is also possible these symptoms are due to a viral infection.  In the short term this, too, can produce the same symptoms.  While Strep infection is possible, this is not the most likely since you have not had a fever, redness of the throat or a very sore throat.  If the symptoms persist, you might want your doctor to evaluate you and perform a culture.

one never knows until they have a throat culture to rule out strep....it could be your allergies given the scratchy throat and postnasal drip......or it could be sinus infection....you have lyphm reaction at that back of your throat which is usually symmetrical with viral or bacterial infections....you really should see your dr to rule out bacterial infections    good luck
