Complications from cpr

by dacheedah, Oct 11, 2007 07:45AM
My wife is 37years old, thin and athletic.  Past surgeries include partial discectomy, double fusion l4-s1 from an injury at work, several (7)  laprascopic surgeries for endometriosis and her left ovary removed, now two surgeries to remove cysts where her ovary was.  During her last surgery , about fifteen minutes in she coded on the table.  CPR was performed and they withdrew the gas and the surgeon stated as soon as the gas was removed she responded and all vitals returned.  They opened her up and did some surgical repairs. Following that it took her several days to come out of anaesthesia and several weeks to return to her normal self.   That was in June , now in October she is still having chest pain and at times labored breathing.  The pulmonologist said she is fine and our family doctor feels it may be some phantom pain, they seem stumped.  I feel that she is very in touch with her body and every time she complains of pain we find the source.   She is also easily tired and tends to sleep alot more than ever before.   The surgeon feels the crash was caused by a visal reaction or an co2 embolism.

There is always some physical damage resulting from even perfectly performed CPR. It is not "phantom pain" she is feeling. That being said, the damage usually heals over time.
