Cough

Have had a needle like pain on and off for years , middle of chest and a little to the left , near the edge of pocket area . I'm talking decades ! Checked it out several times and found nothing .... X-ray , stress test ..... The VA has had me on a sinus pill for some time now and if I don't take it they go wild sneezing and coughing for days to the point of sore ribs ...
Almost two yrs ago started having mucus  and coughing  in the AM before wake up time . And sometimes ? In the day would be short of breath , but a few deep breaths thru my mouth takes care of that , but seems to happen more often .
I have a bad back and noticed when I take my hydro codon that it clears up so now I take them at 1st wake up ... Once or twice a day I feel a small amour of mucus trying to start in the front of my chest and pound that area for a few seconds and it clears up .... Can not most times breath thru nose to sleep and will prop hand against face to open up one side

Thank you for your  return post ! The pain is now 97% gone and so is the cough !! ... It had gotten very bad and the cough had gotten worse , the pain was starting to scare me a little .. I am a over the road driver and carry a lot of my food to keep from eating out , including instant coffee ! Which I thought might be the problem , dropped it cold turkey and WOW over night the pain was gone .. Again thank you for the return post .

The “needle-like-pain is a nuisance but almost certainly nothing to worry about.  It is one form of a category of pains called shooting pains and a cause is almost never found.

The rest of your message suggests that you have post-nasal drip from your sinuses, probably chronic sinusitis that can be infectious, allergic or of unknown cause.  However the onset of “having mucous and coughing in the A.M” should not be assumed to be from your sinuses;  it could just as easily be from your lungs, especially if you smoke cigarettes.  For that reason, you should see your doctor to have your lungs checked-out by physical exam and Chest X-ray.

Good luck
