Could metal dental work provoke asthma and sinus mucus to be aggravated?

by imbabsj, May 18, 2006 12:00AM
I have had a on going problem with excessive mucus for 3yrs. and then found out I also have late onset asthma.  I recently had some dental work done which included having a molar built up with some sort of metal work and around the same time my pulmonologist also increased my advair to 5oo/50 and added spiriva is it possible that the dental work could be aggravating my asthma and sinusitis?  Is that too much of strecth to think that?  Since that time my mucus has become much worse and I'm just trying to figure out anything different that may have occured to possibly have any input on it.  any thoughts?

Anything is possible.  It is possible that the dental work allowed some bacteria to cause an inflammation in the sinuses.  It is not uncommon for dental work to release bacteria that are otherwise not a problem.  This could cause increased drainage.  A sinus CT scan can help make that diagnosis.

That makes sense - recently I had two metal fillings removed and within a week or two I had a raging sinus infection. ~ S
