Could this be sinusitis or allergies?

Hi, I`ve been having this sharp, dull, aching pain behind my right eye for months now. It is intermittent. It feels like a stabbing pain sometimes too. After I had my daughter in Aug. of 2002, I had some neurological problems, tingling and stuff, and then I started noticing this too. I`ve had MRI`s, and even had an opthamologist look in my eyes after it began. Both tests were normal. I also noticed though that I have nasal congestion around my cheekbones during this, and Tavist-D sinus medicine seems to help. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or have any information? Could this be allergies? Thanks.....

There are several possible reasons for the symptoms you have described. One cause is a chronic sinus infection. It comes on just as a cold and lasts quite a while. It comes and goes and needs a prolonged course of antibiotics to get it resolved. An important test to make the diagnosis of sinusitis is a sinus CT scan. A sinus x-ray is not quite as good, but it

Yes, I`ve had good medical attention. But none of the doctors told me whether or not that I have allergies or a sinus infection... But it has been about 6 mos. since the MRI was done. Do you have allergies??

You mention having a MRI and going to an eye doctor.  So it appears you have access to good medical attention.  Have you thought of going to an allergist?

I was diagnosed with asthma a few months ago. I'm just continually short of breath. Doc says it is probably from allergies. Meds aren't helping, so I think I'm going to make an appointment with an allergist.  I want to get to the bottom of this instead of them just guessing and "trying" medicines.

It couldn't hurt to go to an allergist and see what he thought about your pain.  Singulair is a medicine that was developed for asthma. But a few years ago, they started marketing it for hay fever and allergies. Who knows, maybe the doc would have you try that. It's a pill you take once a day.

If this is in your sinuses, what about an ear, nose, and throat doctor?
