Croupy cough, no other cold symptoms

My 8 year old has had a croupy sounding cough for 3 months, with NO other cold symptoms.  She doesn't ususally cough, but when she does, it sounds like a barking seal.  She does cough after heavy exercise and sometimes feels "like somebody is squeezing my lungs."  Her allergy test was negative.  The breathing test (spirometer) was "fine." Chest x-rays show some inflamation in the lungs.  Her Pulmonary dr. put her on Singulair for a month and gave her an inhaler for emergencies.  The Singulair has given her a stomach ache, nausea, for over 2 weeks now.  We are waiting on a visit to a different Pulmonologist, as requested by the pediatrician.  It doesn't sound like allergies or asthma that I have heard other people describe.  Her pediatrician said it could be sinus drip or reflux, yet again she has no other symptoms.  Any thoughts?

Thank you

One common cause of these symptoms in children is chronic sinus inflammation.  A CT scan of the sinuses is a safe way to make this diagnosis.  You might discuss this with your Pediatrician.

it doesn't sound like sinus drip (post nasal drip) or reflux if she has no other symptoms.  you may just need to get more x-rays to show the status of her lungs, or maybe even her bronchi tubes to show any inflammation.  good luck!
