Cutting down a left lung

by avi1, Jul 31, 2004 12:00AM
What is the rate (precence- %) of the disability when the lung is remooved.

in the test there is these results:

FEV1=51%
FVC= 60%
DLCO= 60%

Whatis the most important parameter or parameters to decide disability of cutting down a complete lung?

Thank you in advance.

These test results show that one lung has been removed and the remaining lung is working well.  The percent of disability depends upon the type of work being done.  The loss of one lung could result in no disability for a person doing a desk job.  However it could result in total disability for a person who has a physically demanding job.

The most important pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters to decide disability would be the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), the forced vital capacity (FVC), and the FEV1/FVC ratio.  The loss of one lung ordinarily leaves a person with a little over 50% of their original lung function.  This is what your test results are showing.
