Dark Colored (Purpleish Black) Mucus

I am a 21 y/o Female. I havent done anything in the last 24hours out of ordinary, and this morning i woke up with a sore throat and have been caughing up mucus which im used to becasue i get sick quite often. But the mucus kept getting darker and darker, until it appeared to be purple-ish black. I dont think this is normal. Any ideas?

Does it look like old blood? Maybe there is irritation there causing the color change. Another thought, maybe you have a bacterial infection. I would check with your doctor if this continues, you could need antibiotics to help clear this.
