Dry Cough for over 4 weeks

I've had a tickling sensation in my throat for over 4 weeks now, since May 4th.  I usually do not cough as to not make it worse.  It is always a dry cough.  No sounds in my chest.  Some days are better than others.  Right when my eyes open in the morning, I feel completely fine.  Shortly after, I gradually start to feel the tickle come back.  I do have seasonal allergies, however pollen has been in the "low" for the past 3 days and today I feel the tickle as bad as day 1.  I will typically take a Zyrtec if my allergies bother me.  I've had allergies all my life, but have NEVER had the urge to cough as symptom.  Also, when the tickle started, I had no stopped up nose or anything.  I am having some post-nasal dripping, but the first couple of weeks I didn't seem to have the drip as far as I could tell.  I could be wrong about that.  I do not have any reflux or heartburn and I tried taking a few Tums to see if it would do anything.  It did not.  I had a bad cold in April but got over it with the last symptoms being coughing.  About 10-15 days later, this cough came out of the blue with no other symptoms.  Not even sore.  I work in a large old government building (office environment) that I thought could be a main cause as it seemed to get worse there (mold, construction, etc..) and other people have complained about the air with no clear culprits.  I've contacted the safety people, but am getting largely ignored.  3 day weekends away from the office does not resolve the tickling.  I've been at the building for over 5 years and this is my first problem.  It is sudden.  I really have no idea.  Cough drops help.  Eating helps.  Anything really helps temporarily.  I'm more interested in what is wrong with me than dealing with my symptoms.  I'm 27.  Non-smoker.  Never had anything like this.  I would greatly appreciate some thoughts.  Thank you!  Daniel

If you get any more info, please let me know... or post here... I'm having the exact same problem.

I'm going to have to do that mold test myself, and clean my filters out.

i went to a doc-in-a-box and got a corticosteroid shot (decadron) 4 days ago.  it seemed to help initially, but now i don't really feel any difference.  i'm on veramyst and allerx.  and i'm not stopped up at all, no sneezing, no itchy eyes and YET the throat tickle will not die and i don't think it is any better at all.  if i do have any remaining post-nasal drip, it's hardly any at all.  pollen counts have dropped a lot the past few days.  i'm starting to go crazy.

Hello,
You need to go to Home Depot or drug store and get a mold detection kit. Sneak it in the air conditioner vent and let it sit for a day. Read the instructions. Then send it for eval. it is cheap. I had the same problem in my job, govt. old lots of mold. I told them to fix it or I will call OSHA for eval. My eyes would burn, cough and i could hardly breathe there was so much mold. Its all good now, and I Have no more problems. I told my other co workers in other areas with mold they need to open thier mouths or do their own testing.
